Brief History - St Oswald's originally formed part of the Woodlands Estate, which was the house and estate of the Yeoman family for over 200 years. After 1939, large parts of the estate were sold off, and following the death of Charlotte Yeoman in 1958, the remainder of the estate was sold off in 12 lots. One of the 12 lots, which included the Coach House and birdpit, was bought to Lady Armatrude Waechter de Grimston in 1960. She built a residence on this land and developed landscaped gardens on the slope below the birdpit. Lady de Grimston died in 1982 and bequeathed her property to the Order of the Holy Paraclete (OHP). In 1983, St Oswald's Pastoral Centre was opened, and since then has been under the careful custodianship of the OHP.
