History: Park House was originally constructed circa 1850’s for John Charles Crampin, stock valuer, appraiser and grocer from Saxmundham. The Crampin family endowed many charities. It was then owned by The Towers Family who often held bible classes at Park House. General Booth, founder of The Salvation Army, stayed at the house. It was The Towers who bought the paddock next to Park House, on condition that they tidied up the rough land, left by the army after the 1914-18 war. After The Towers, Park House was occupied for several years by the eccentric twins Rhoisia and Bridget Copinger Hill. In 1931 as debutantes, they were presented at Court. The sisters, who were keen archaeologists, helped Charles Phillips and Basil Brown with the excavations at Sutton Hoo, Woodbridge just before the Second World War. The twins would throw interesting parties and on one occasion a huge laundry basket was delivered in the middle of the festivities, containing many portions of fish and chips. On snowy days The Copinger Hills would often ski down the High St for their local shopping. The Copinger Hills converted the former gig. Still available at ListedBuy!
